Last month, I fell victim to a phishing attack that turned my world upside down. It started with an innocent mistake, downloading something from a shady email I shouldn’t have trusted. That one click gave an intruder access to my laptop, exposing all my browsing data. But they didn’t stop there. Instead of wreaking havoc everywhere, the hacker had a very peculiar focus: LinkedIn accounts.

Now, here’s some context, I had multiple LinkedIn accounts logged in on my laptop. It’s part of my daily grind as a lead generator and digital marketer. Managing social media for different companies is my thing, and LinkedIn is a goldmine for connections. But this hacker wasn’t interested in stealing my passwords or making my life inconvenient. Nope. They went ahead and changed the outlook of all the LinkedIn profiles on my laptop. All of them.

Every company profile I managed was transformed into something unrecognizable—foreign-sounding names, strange job titles, and bizarre content. It was clearly a setup to scam others. Imagine seeing a professional business profile turned into a parody of itself!

The Week from Hell

It took me an entire week to clean up the mess. I had to reset my hard drive, wipe my laptop, and re-secure every single account. It was tedious and draining, but eventually, I restored order—or so I thought. I changed all the passwords, reset LinkedIn profiles, and vowed to be extra cautious in the future.

But the chaos wasn’t over.

The Moment I Discovered the True Damage

Fast forward a month. I had just signed a contract with a new company and decided to log back into LinkedIn to check my profile. What I saw left me speechless: all my posts were gone.

GONE!

Every single post I had poured hours into—thoughtful articles, engaging updates, inspiring ideas, my bi-weekly newsletter—was wiped clean. My professional footprint, which I’d carefully curated over years, had vanished in an instant. It wasn’t just the breach of privacy that stung. It was the loss of my work, my creativity, my voice. There were no backups. Nothing.

The Creative Loss That Broke Me

As if that wasn’t enough, the hacker’s intrusion led to another devastating loss. Right after I reset my laptop, I felt a rare spark of inspiration to write a poem. I eagerly opened my C drive to save it and was hit by the realization: EVERYTHING WAS GONE!!

All my poems, unfinished stories, article drafts, book ideas—they were wiped out when I reset my laptop. Years of thoughts and creativity, erased. I had no backups because I always thought, “What are the odds I’ll lose them?” Well, now I know.

Why?

To the hacker who did this, I have just one question: What the hell did you gain from this?

You didn’t steal my money. You didn’t drain my accounts. You didn’t sell my data. Instead, you wrecked my creative world and erased years of my efforts just for kicks. Was it worth it?

Picking Up the Pieces

Losing all those posts, poems, and projects hit me hard, but it also taught me some painful yet valuable lessons:

  1. Always back up your work.
  2. Stay vigilant against phishing scams.
  3. Sometimes, rebuilding is the only way forward.

The journey back to where I was isn’t easy, but I’m determined to rise from this setback. My creativity and resilience weren’t wiped out—they’re still here, stronger than ever.
